Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

Bruxism is when you clench (tightly hold your top and bottom teeth together) or grind (slide your teeth back and forth over each other) your teeth.

Many people grind or clench their teeth, potentially resulting in serious damage.

The problems can be tooth specific, with issues like cracked or broken teeth or fillings, or even as involved as abscessed (infected) teeth.

The results can be more general, in the form of headaches or jaw/shoulder/neck pain. We have successfully treated many patients with chronic headaches by reducing their teeth clenching habit.

The treatment usually involves the fabrication and fitting of a custom mouthpiece that is worn during the periods of peak clenching. For most patients, this is while sleeping. However, some benefit from using the appliance during the day.

Call our office to schedule an appointment to determine if you might benefit from this treatment.
